Position: Full time chef, jointly at the Danish Mission to the United Nations and at the Consulate General of Denmark in New York.
Length of employment: 1 July 2025 until 31 January 2027 - with the possibility of extension.
Location: Residences of the two Heads of Mission on the Upper East Side and in the Financial District, respectively.

The Permanent Mission of Denmark to the United Nations in New York (the Danish UN Mission) and the Consulate General of Denmark has an opening of a joint full-time position for an
experienced, creative and service-minded Chef.
The two Residences of the two Ambassadors (the Permanent Representative of Denmark to the UN located in the Upper East and the Consul General of Denmark located in the Financial District)
hosts representative events including breakfasts, lunches, dinners and receptions for UN contacts, politicians, companies and other relevant external contacts. Occasionally events will also be
hosted at the joint Chancellery of the two Missions in the Chrysler Building. Denmark is a member of the UN Security Council in 2025-26 and this entails an increased need for representative dining.
Main tasks and responsibilities
- Running the kitchens of the Residences for the aforementioned dining events.
- Preparation of menus, shopping, cooking and baking for dining events in the Residences.
- Arranging for additional assistance from waiters etc. if needed in cooperation with the Ambassador’s Personal Assistants (PA’s).
- Budget and bookkeeping of the provision of food in cooperation with the Ambassador’s PAs.
- Responsible for maintaining the kitchens of the Residences in a clean sanitary condition after dining.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Working hours will be flexible depending on activities in the Residences but will include frequent working during evenings and occasionally on weekends.
Qualifications
- Documented experience as a chef is required. Experience running a kitchen would be preferred, incl. the managing of the provision of food items.
- Experience with private dining would be an advantage, but not essential.
- An approachable personality and good communication skills.
- Must be flexible with working hours.
- Knowledge and experience with Nordic Cuisine is an advantage but not a requirement.
- Documented creativity within fine dining is an advantage but not a requirement.
- Good English skills required.
- Clean criminal records.
Employment conditions
- Full-time employment until 31st January 2027 on a contract on local terms with the Permanent Mission of Denmark to the UN - with the possibility of extension.
- You will be employed with a working week of – on average – 37 hours, including a 30-minute daily lunch break, but you are employed without an upper limit on working hours.
- Longer working hours must be expected during peak periods and there will be dining in the evenings and occasionally on weekends and closing days. You will have the flexibility to take compensating time off when there are no events.
- You are entitled to 5 weeks (25 working days) of paid vacation days per year. The timing of the holidays will be subject to approval by the Ambassadors.
- The basic gross yearly salary for the position – for an employee subject to US income taxation – is USD 83,400. For a tax-exempt employee (non-US) the yearly net salary will be USD 66,700. Depending on the candidate’s qualifications and experience an additional individual allowance may be added.
- As part of your salary, you will be covered by a workplace pension scheme and the Mission will cover the employer part of pension contribution and the employer part of medical insurance.
- You will be offered reasonable coverage of sickness expenses. So will your spouse/partner/children under the age of 26, if you provide for him/her/them.
- Accommodation cannot be offered.
