Virtual Briefing with the Danish CRPD Candidate
To all Permanent Missions of States Parties to the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD)
In light of the election of members to the CRPD for the 2023-2026 term in June 2022, the Permanent Mission of Denmark to the UN in New York is pleased to invite all States Parties to CRPD to a virtual briefing with Danish candidate Sif Holst, in which she will present her priorities for the candidature and take questions from participants. Sif Holst’s CV, a Note Verbale concerning her candidature as well as a flyer with a visual presentation are attached.
Ahead of the briefing, we invite you to watch Sif’s presentation in this short video and read her statement below.
"Throughout the world, the pandemic has shown us how far we are from the vision of the CRPD. During lockdown, people have been isolated in institutions or at home as services have changed. The employment gap of those with and without disability has risen. And those who cannot use all the new digital solutions are truly left behind.
Too often, the needs of persons with disabilities have come as an afterthought to the emergency plans, whether the emergency is the pandemic, the economy or the climate crisis.
We need to get back to basics and secure the foundation if we are to build back better and achieve the vision of the CRPD – and the promise of the Sustainable Development Goals to Leave No One Behind.
We have a golden opportunity to change how we do things, if we recognize that we develop the best solutions together and secure a seat at the table for persons with disabilities."
Sif Holst, 2021
The virtual briefing will take place at 09:00 AM (EDT) on Thursday the 21st of October via the Zoom platform, preceding the interactive dialogues in the UNGA Third Committee with the chair of the Committee on the Rights of Persons With Disabilities and the UN Special Rapporteur of the rights of persons with disabilities.
Please RSVP with your name and affiliation/delegation to Anna Færch Hansen ([email protected]). Connection details will be circulated prior to the meeting. Relevant colleagues from capitals, permanent missions in Geneva and elsewhere are most welcome to join.
Sincerely,
Permanent Mission of Denmark to the UN in New York
