Statement by Denmark at the High Level Political Forum 2024 General Debate
Check against delivery
Excellencies, ladies and gentlemen,
Last year we crossed the halfway mark to 2030. The challenges we face have been thoroughly diagnosed, now is the time for action.
The Summit of the Future is a unique opportunity to reinvigorate the multilateral system to help accelerate our shared goals and our promise to leave no one behind.
Let me highlight two key points that Denmark believes need to be at the centre of our efforts:
First, addressing the climate crisis and achieving the SDGs cannot happen in isolation. Climate action and development policy are inseparable.
Second, we need collectively to strengthen our efforts to mobilise more resources for climate and development.
Denmark is proud to continue to deliver on our commitment of providing 0.7% of GNI in ODA. But we need to look beyond domestic resources and ODA to mobilise the funds required to achieve the SDGs, including mobilising private, blended and innovative finance and making the international financial architecture more efficient and fit for purpose.
The 2030 Agenda remains our North Star for a more sustainable and prosperous future for people and planet. Denmark remains committed to working tirelessly for its full implementation.
In the spirit of inclusivity, Denmark has traditionally shared our speaking time with a youth representative. Therefore, I would now like to give the floor to our UN Youth Delegate, Jacob Blasius.
