26.09.24 Ministerial Meeting of the Peacebuilding Commission
Check Against Delivery
Ministers, Excellencies – everyone.
As we gather today, we do so against the backdrop of the Pact for the Future and the 2025 Peacebuilding Architecture Review.
These processes offer a chance to strengthen the UN Peacebuilding Architecture.
Today, I will highlight three key priorities, that Denmark believes are crucial for sustainable peace.
***
Firstly, conflict prevention. Prevention must be at the heart of our agenda. As an incoming member of the UN Security Council, Denmark will work hard to ensure prevention remains central to our efforts.
Equally important is national ownership. Countries must lead and take responsibility for their peacebuilding processes to prevent conflicts.
***
Secondly, the financing of peacebuilding. Developing nations have long stressed the need for funding in conflict prevention, sustainable development and climate action.
In response, Denmark is doubling the budget for its Africa Programme for Peace and Sustainability. And launching a new Peace and Stabilisation Programme in West Africa.
But these efforts cannot stand alone.
The upcoming Peacebuilding Architecture Review is an opportunity to strengthen collaboration between the UN and International Financial Institutions.
In addition to these efforts, we need to scale up South-South cooperation.
By directly sharing expertise among developing nations, we can reduce dependency on traditional aid models.
It is our belief that this approach fosters more sustainable growth.

Finally, women’s participation in peace processes.
Women’s engagement is vital for lasting peace.
In fact, we know peace is more sustainable when women are meaningfully participating in the process.
Denmark will make this a key focus of our work in the Security Council.
Peace requires commitment.
Peace requires effort.
Peace requires a platform to act.
And Denmark is ready to do its part.
Thank you.
